The Clean-Air Act Discussed in Wildwood
The Clean-Air Act, a proposal to ban smoke in all public areas in Wildwood City was discussed by city residents at the public hearing Thursday night at the St. Louis Community College-Wildwood Campus. About 75 people attended, and 31 expressed their views before the city council and the 75 people who attended. Of the speakers, 24 presented facts and opinions in favor of the proposal, while seven spoke against. Those in favor were a mix of students, residents, medical workers who live in Wildwood City. They were joined by public health representatives from the University of Missouri, the American Cancer Society and St. Louis University. There were 31 speakers, 24 supporters, 7 non-supporters, 88% support, 22% no support.
The 88% percent who spoke in favor of the Clean Air Act reflected the surveys done last spring in Wildwood by the Rockwood Valley Middle School students that determined that 85 percent of the Wildwood residents in the RVMS area would support a city-wide smoking ban.
The council will meet on Monday, September 28 at 6 p.m. to discuss the Proposed Clean Air Ordinance during the work session. The regular meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
